Welcome

Woking is home to the most racially diverse community in Surrey. In several Primary Schools, over half the children come from homes where English is not the mother tongue.

There are significant communities from South Asia (5.8% from the 2001 Census), as well as smaller communities from Africa and Europe, and nationally significant Muslim communities. The ward with the highest minority ethnic population in Woking is Maybury and Sheerwater at 34%, followed by Goldsworth East at 11.6%.

With such diversity, it is important that communities grow to understand and respect each other.

Across has been established to help Woking’s Christians to understand the diverse communities in our town, and to build bridges of understanding and co-operation between these communities.
